Tyre Sizes

Tyre size can be found on the sidewall of a tyre and appears as a combination of numbers and letters.

Knowing what each section of these numbers and letters mean will make life easier to find your car's tyre size.

For example the picture below shows a tyre with a mixture of numbers and letters: 195 55 R16 87 V

This is what you should look out for.

How to check your tyres

Checking yours tyres can be very simple anyone can do it.

Make sure your car is parked in a safe place and is level where you are able to check each tyre.

If you are using a tyre tread depth gauge place it between the grooves, taking the reading from the central third of the tread, if it reads over 1.6mm the car is safe to drive.

Even though the legal limit is 1.6mm, tyre efficiency is highly reduced when the tread is below 3mm, especially in wet conditions when stopping distance is increased.

It is strongly advised that your tyres are replaced before they reach the legal limit!

When it comes to driving in the snow first things first check that your tyres are adequate tread depth. Worn tyres that are in very poor condition will have no grip and could put your life in danger. We would Strongly recommend that you use winter tyres that have a temperature that are  below 7°C  this will ensure much better grip and handling when it comes to driving in the snow.

Driving in the fog

Driving in the fog can be very dangerous and will reduced your visibility. So to make sure your safe we would recommend that you know where your controls for both your front and rear fog lights are at all times. Do not confuse this with your main beam lights because this could blind on coming drivers. It is also advised to keep a safe distance between you and the driver in front, use the 2 second rule here this can be very crucial and may safe your life.
